Adam’s Peak or Sri Pada is as much one of Sri Lanka’s most striking natural landmarks and one of its most celebrated places of pilgrimage. At 2243m it’s actually only the 5th highest peak of the island. Most visitors climb the mountain during the pilgrimage season, which starts on the Duruthu POYA full moon day in December or January and continues until Vesak Poya in may each year. Most people do climb at night and hope to see the sunrise while on the summit.

During the recent past, Sri Lanka has emerged as one of the leading whale watching destinations. It might be the best place to see blue whales. The main location for tours is Mirissa, on the southern coast of the island, where the season runs from December through April!

Christmas in Sri Lanka is celebrated by the Christian community and Colombo is lit up with thousands of lights. Hotels and shops are decorated with Santa, his reindeer-sleigh and X-Mas music is played on all radio stations.
