Explore Bundala
An ornithological paradise, Bundala is the site of Bundala National Park, one of the best destinations for birdwatching enthusiasts. It is located just under 300 kilometres south and east of Colombo, at the south-eastern bend of the coast of Sri Lanka.
Bundala National Park, apart from being a bird sanctuary, is home to crocodiles, turtles, even some elephants and a whole host of flora. The park consists of 5 shallow lagoons, separated by scrubby forest running down to coastal dunes. The lagoons attract an amazing variety of aquatic birds, including pelicans, egrets, storks, ibis and of course flamingos.
What to do/see when at the Batticaloa:
- Visit Bundala National Park to see some beautiful endemic and migratory birds.
- If you’re lucky, you may even see a flock of Flamingos in the lagoon, a sight that occurs only once a year.
