The Kalpitiya peninsula, north of Chilaw on the west coast remains still largely unexploited but has huge potential. Alankuda beach is one of the newest tourist destinations, its principal attraction being a prime Dolphin watching spot. Sightings of huge pods of up to two thousand Spinner Dolphins have been reported during the season. These Dolphins often swim alongside the boats and frolic in the seas – a thrilling site for children and adults alike. Whale- watching is also a possibility ( Nov.- April).
